Newsletter #1 - Objectives and progress in our first year

The consortium has been focusing on different streams of work to achieve the aims of the use cases. Objectives and progress to date are detailed below:

Technical University of Madrid (UPM), Spain

Technical University of Madrid (UPM), Spain
Work package 2 – Clinical Data Analysis

Objectives

  • Analysis of the text contained in the EHR
  • Image fusion and analysis
  • Semantic indexing of text and images
  • Pattern extraction

Progress

  • Different imagery biomarkers have been implemented and investigated to analyse tumours and to separate patients with Alzheimer’s from cognitive normal patients.

Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), Spain

Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), Spain
Work package 3 – Genomic Data Analysis

Objectives

  • Identify and validate predictive genomic factors for the diseases under study that will allow for both personal precision intervention and policy making decisions.

Progress

  • Genomics data has been harvested and semantically indexed; first analysis of genomics data has been performed.

National Centre for Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’

National Centre for Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’ (NCSR Demokritos), Greece
Work package 4 – Open Data Analysis

Objectives

  • Collection and filtering of the use case-related open data sources
  • Information extraction and analysis of the pre-defined open data sources
  • Exploitation of semantic web technologies in order to map the information extracted from the open data to the related ontologies

Progress

  • Open data sources related to Alzheimer’s and lung cancer have been selected, and tools have been developed to harvest this data. The first version of the analysis module has been created.

Leibniz University of Hanover (LUH), Germany

Leibniz University of Hanover (LUH), Germany
Work package 5 – Data Fusion and High-Level Analysis

Objectives

  • Design a unified conceptual schema to represent the IASIS integrated knowledge base
  • Define privacy- and trust-aware strategies
  • Implement high-level data analysis strategies for the discovery of patterns in the IASIS integrated knowledge base.

Progress

  • Different data sources have been characterised and are being integrated to create a knowledge graph. Semantic terms and ontologies in both disease areas have been identified for the semantic indexing.

Athens Technology Center (ATC), Greece

Work package 6 – Integrated Platform

Objectives

  • Integrate the components and services delivered by the other work packages into the IASIS platform.

Progress

  • The iASiS integrated prototype infrastructure has been partially setup based on the defined iASiS Architecture.
